Your Step-by-Step Guide to Renovating Your Bathroom

When it comes to a bathroom renovation, there’s often a misconception about the amount of decisions that need to be made, as well as the timeline from start to finish.

Step 1: Intentional Planning

There are a lot of items to decide on, especially for what’s typically a small space. For example:

Do you prefer a shower or a bath? Rain shower, handheld shower head, or body sprays?
What types of tiles do you want–small or large–for the floor and tub/shower walls?
Do you want a shampoo niche or accent tile?
Floating vanity or one that goes to the floor?
Sconces or light bars for the vanity?
Decorative mirrors or a medicine cabinet?
Frameless shower door or curtain?

And this is not to mention reconfiguring the bathroom, because we have been asked many times to eliminate the whirlpool tubs in favor of walk-in showers. All of these choices add up quickly, so it’s best to start with a clear vision.

Step 2: Design Every Detail

Planning is essential when designing a new bathroom. Seeing all the elements together ahead of time helps ensure a smooth construction process.

Think about it: most bathrooms are maybe no larger than 8’ x 9’. So how many people can reasonably work in a space that size? Probably not many, not comfortably, at least. A detailed design keeps things organized and efficient.

Step 3: Seamless Execution

We have all the decisions made and as much as possible ordered, before a hammer is taken to the walls for demo. Especially in a small space like a bathroom, there are almost always surprises.

So it's very important that the designer, contractor, and client meet after the demo to resolve any unknowns that have been discovered once the walls have been removed.

We realize the bathroom may seem like a small undertaking compared to, for instance, a kitchen remodel, but there are so many decisions and variables to be made in a bath. We have a streamlined process that takes you from start to finish with limited hiccups along the way.

But be  prepared from the start and realize the complete remodeling process could be longer than a kitchen remodel.
